Introducing Jolyon White

14 Feb 2010

As of February, Anglican Care is proud to welcome Jolyon White on team as the Social Justice Enabler for the diocese. Before now, Jolyon has been based in Wellington as the enabler for the Anglican Social Justice Commission. Bishop Victoria had been on the lookout for the right person to raise the profile of social justice in the diocese and, when she meet Jolyon at last year's Anglican Care AGM, she thought he was a perfect match for the challenge.

Jolyon is a passionate advocate for the marginalised and those in need, an engaging speaker, and has a flare for writing. While at the commission, he penned two acclaimed booklets covering gardening and food from a justice perspective, and is hoping to complete the last of the series on economics. He also attracted significant media attention a few years back, when he spent a month living off one dollar a day to raise awareness of the billions of people for whom that was the norm.

So, what exactly will he be doing for us here on the mainland? For now you’ll just have to wait and see, but Jolyon is keen to see local churches back at the heart of social justice and empowerment in our neighbourhoods. “I’m looking forward to working in the Diocese of Christchurch and feel like this is a role full of possibilities and potential.”
